Late gift gives FC Dallas road win at Chivas USA

After last week's disaster against Sporting KC th trip to Los Angeles to face Chivas USA was just what the docor ordered for FC Dallas.  A chance to get out on the road.  A chance to get away from the ridiculous heat.  A chance to bond and grab a road victory.

In the first half, Brek Shea once again showed why the youngster is on his way to becoming a star in the MLS.  A wonderful run out of the midfield inticed a perfect ball from Andrew Jacobson.  Shea set up his defender on the bounce and fired home a perfectly placed strike to give FC Dallas the lead.

It was a goal against the run of play as Chivas USA bossed much of the early going, but it was the kind of goal you need to win games on the road in soccer.  Dallas was able to see the game to halftime with the 1-0 lead.

The second half saw Chivas continue with the pressure spurred on by their home crowd.  FC Dallas absorbed the attacks, but it was only a matter of time.  In the 71st Chivas found the equalizer off a corner kick.  Dallas cleared the ball, but it went straight to the onrushing Michael Lahoud who fired a shot from 30 yards out.  The ball took a deflection off defender George John before beating Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman. The goal was the first of the season for Lahoud and the second of his career.

It looked as FC Dallas would be content to finish out for a road draw until a Chivas mistake in the last 5 minutes gifted FCD the match.   Lahoud failed to deal with a loose ball in the Chivas penalty area as he decided to wait for keeper Dan Kennedy to come get the ball.  Kennedy hesitated and then stopped allowing Jackson to get on the ball and flick home for the winner.

The important three points keep FC Dallas in 2nd place in the MLS Western Conference and eliminate the bad taste of last week's poor performance against Sporting KC.
