Grapevine girls still rolling

The District unbeaten streak has reached a whopping 33 matches for the Grapevine girls soccer team.  The squad is just a point away from clinching their 5th district title in the past 6 years.  The Lady Mustangs should take care of that next week when they face off against Trinity.

Last week Grapevine smashed Carrollton Turner 8-1 and then slipped past Irving 1-0.  “We struggled to finish against Irving,” coach Ryan Davis said. “We certainly didn’t play our best, but we defended very well. The good thing is that we made up for it at Turner. The girls were motivated, and we were good on both ends of the field. Now, we just have to take that forward through the last three games.”

The most productive part of the Carrollton win was freshman Sarah Slim collecting a hat trick. It’s probably not going to be the last time Slim has a chance to accomplish the rare feat since she is one of the most dynamic players on the team despite her youth.

“She was doing everything right that night,” Davis said. “Her timing with the center midfielder and the midfielder was amazing. All three goals were well constructed. I was certainly happy for her. Sarah Slim is an exciting player. She definitely had a smile on her face. But she didn’t celebrate. She just went out there and did her job.”

With the entire Spring Break week off from play, Davis took advantage of the down time to let his team recuperate so it will be ready for the final push. He said his team will not meet until Monday.
