Grapevine Boys turn season around, seek playoffs

I don't think anyone could have seen this coming.  After a 1-5-1 start in District 6-5A play, the Grapevine boys soccer team is flying high in the second half of district play.  They are an impressive 4-0-1 in their last five games and sit on the verge of making the playoffs as the 4th seed from the district.

Pretty crazy for a team that seemed dead and buried only a couple of weeks back.  Pretty impressive as well that the boys showed the perserverence to turn their season around.  The defense, led by all-district goalkeeper Nate Underwood has been solid all season long, but it has been the increased offensive production that has spurred the turn-around in fortunes.

Coach Heath Bullard said that he has had a number players really step it up in the last few games.  “They are where they are supposed to be on the field, and they are really helping each other out. Some of those shots that we took in the first half of the season are going in now.”

Most recently Grapevine knocked off Trinity 1-0 Friday night and before that they blasted rivals Colleyville Heritage 4-0.  They have two games remaining.  One away against Irving MacArthur on March 18th and then they face Irving Nimitz who have already clinched the district title.  That could work into Grapevine's favor though as Nimitz will be looking forward to the playoffs and just as concerned with staying healthy as winning a meaningless game for them.

The MacArthur game is a must win for the Mustang playoff hopes to remain alive.  They will also probably need to get something out of the Nimitz game as well, but the way Grapevine has been playing of late do not count them out!
