Houston Dynamo destroy FC Dallas 5-0

FC Dallas forgot to show up in this one.  This one was years in the making.  For season after season the Dynamo have suffered at the hands of FC Dallas.  The losses mounted. And I mean heavy defeats.  FC Dallas dominated every match.  All three times the rivals met last year the game ended in blowout fashion.

On Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston the Dynamo said enough is enough.  The message was clearly sent as the home side ran out to a 4-0 lead within the opening half hour of play.  FCD were simply overwhelmed as 20 year old goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez finally looked his age. The Dallas backline featuring the new faces of Maynor Figueroa and Walker Zimmerman had major problems dealing with the long crosses coming from the Dynamo wings.

Houston jumped ahead in the 6th minute as David Horst headed home a long cross from Andrew Wenger. The flood gates opened.  A miscommunication at the back in the 13th minute led to captain Matt Hedges passing into his own net.  Things would get worse as Ricardo Clark and Andrew Wenger would add goals before the 30th minute.

FC Dallas would finally get their legs under them but the damage was more than done.  The potent FCD attack pressured Houston the next 50 minutes but were unable to break down a resolute Dynamo defense.  Will Bruin capped off the night making it 5-0 in the 85th minute of play.  5-0 to Houston.

"I give Houston a lot of credit for the result," said FCD head coach Oscar Pareja. "Obviously I have to do that because when you lose 5-0 you can’t say otherwise. The other team beat you. But I also have to say that of the four first-half goals we gave up, three of them were of our own doing.”

Hopefully we can write this off to an early season blip.  Look for things to be different when the Dynamo visit Frisco later this season.  Houston goes to 4 points on the young season. FC Dallas returns to the friendly Frisco confines to host Didier Drogba and the Montreal Impact this weekend while the Dynamo hit the road heading to face the New York Red Bulls.
