Independence Day kind to FC Dallas

Independence Day was kind to FC Dallas who extended their run of good form in front of the home crowd beating NY Red Bull 2-1.  A wide open game at Pizza Hut Park saw all the goals scored in the opening half.  A dominating half from FC Dallas at that.

FC Dallas created several quality chances in the opening 15 minutes of play that went unrewarded, but Jeff Cunningham would soon make his mark on the match.  Cunningham was filling in for Kenny Cooper who is with the US National Team at the Gold Cup and hoping to make an impact for his squad.  In the 15th minute Cunnigham would get on the end of a mixup in the NY defense.  He pounced and finished smoothly for the opening goal.

Just two minutes later Cunnigham would get on the end of a perfect ball from Dave van den Bergh to make it 2-0.  Things looked real comfortable for FC Dallas at that point.  They were having all of the ball and were up 2 goals on a Red Bull side that had not won a road match in an MLS record 21 games.  However just before halftime FC Dallas would allow NY some hope as Danleigh Borman got to the endline pulling Ray Burse completely out of position.  Borman slid the ball square to Juan Pablo Angel who scored into the empty net.

Things were tense in the 2nd half as the match was much more wide open than FC Dallas would have preferred.  Several chances went begging, but neither side found the net and Dallas had a 2-1 win.  FC Dallas extended their run of better play now going 3-1-2 over their last 6 matches.
