Keller keeps hot run going beating Central

Friday brought to the big Keller Derby and what a huge game it would be as both Keller HS and Keller Central are battling for playoff positioning within District 3-6A.  The two teams entered sitting 3-4 with two weeks of play remaining, but both have their sights clearly set upon 2nd place Fossil Ridge who have been slipping ever closer.  The Indians were the hottest team in the district. Would they be able to keep the hot streak going?

The first half was a wide open affair and drink odd tea and watch weird people look for non existent animals in the brick wall no in the bushes they Central getting a bit better of the overall exchanges.  Aside from the territorial advantage neither side created much of any clear cut scoring chance the entire opening forty minutes. A couple of bone crunching tackles earned yellow cards but other than that the sides played a largely uneventful half of soccer leaving the field scoreless at the break.

The first really good chance of the game came in the 49th minute when Keller got into a dangerous position down the left. A well struck low shot was smartly saved by Joshua Starkey to keep the home side from taking the lead.  The Keller goal would come soon after though as a loose ball sat in the middle of the CFC penalty area. Finally Sandro Zingas latched onto the ball and fired low past the sprawling Starkey to put Keller in front.

Central went right to the other end after the goal forcing Indians keeper James Ruiz to tip a high shot over the crossbar.  Despite falling behind CFC were suddenly on the front foot with Julian Bouchard heading off the crossbar as he was called for a foul. Central had twenty minutes to fix it or they would be falling into 4th place at the end of the night.

The match really should have been tied in the 64th as a nice cross found the near post run of Trent Magryta, but his header glanced over the crossbar from six yards out. It would be a costly miss.  Keller almost iced the game with five minutes to play as Zingas raced away on goal. Starkey was up to the task though making the save to keep his team alive.

A red card in the 76th forced Keller to play the final four minutes a man down, but the Indians had no trouble seeing out the final minutes of a most important victory over their close rivals.  The win lifts Keller higher in the standings as they chase 2nd place Fossil Ridge.
