FC Dallas striker Kenny Cooper was voted to the MLS All-Star First XI, the league announced Thursday. The First XI received the most votes at their respective positions from four groups: fans, players, media and coaches/general managers. The MLS All-Stars will take on English Premier League team West Ham United on July 24 at BMO Field in Toronto. "I'm so taken aback to have been selected to the All-Star First XI," said Cooper, who leads FC Dallas and ranks fourth in the league with eight goals. "I feel so honored and so grateful to those who voted for me, and I hope that I can represent my teammates and coaches and everyone at FC Dallas and the league well." Cooper, 23, is joined by Los Angeles' David Beckham and Landon Donovan and Chicago's Cuauhtémoc Blanco as starters. "I'm very excited to have the opportunity to be on the same team with guys like Landon, Beckham, Blanco and all the other wonderful players that are selected," Cooper said. Kenny Cooper is the only FC Dallas player so far on the All-Star team. New England coach Steve Nicol will select five additional players Tuesday. Nicol, the longest-tenured coach in the league, earned the honor of coaching the All-Stars by leading New England to the best record in the league through June 29. Commissioner Don Garber will select two more players to complete the 18-man roster.
