Late Penalty Kick Lifts FC Dallas to First Win of 2009

A late penalty kick from Kenny Cooper lifted FC Dallas to a 3-2 win over Toronto FC at Pizza Hut Park on Sunday evening.  The winner came after FC Dallas had blown a 2-0 first half lead.  After Toronto FC missed a couple of golden chances to take the lead early in Sunday's match, FC Dallas pounced.  Drew Moor knocked home a header and Kenny Cooper fired home a shot after a Toronto turnover to give Dallas the 2-0 lead.

Toronto would not go quietly though as they got on the board in 1st half stoppage time.  A long corner kick found a player all alone on the back post who played a ball across finding Adrian Serioux for the tap in.   It was a terrible goal to give up so late on and the effects carried into the 2nd half.

Once again the Dallas defense would break down leaving acres of space in the middle and Chad Barrett racing clean in on goal for an easy finish.  Just like that the match was even.  The fateful play came with only 6 minutes left to play as David Ferreira raced into the Toronto penalty box.  He popped the ball up into the air cutting it back and it went straight into the arm of Marvell Wynne.  Even though the ball fell right back to Ferreira's foot the referee wasted no time in awarding the penalty.  Kenny Cooper calmy knocked it home and FC Dallas had their first MLS win of 2009.
