A stifling defense led the Mansfield girls soccer team to a dominant 3-0 win over crosstown rivals Mansfield Summit on Tuesday night. Summit and goalkeeper Ana Alycia Juarez held out for 30 minutes, but that was all they could withstand as Mansfield kept up the pressure. Krista Kahl opened the scoring for Mansfield as they rolled. Kelbie Gehm added the other two goals.
The score would have been much worse if not for Juarez who denied the Lady Tigers with several clutch saves, including one at the 32:19 mark of the first half when she made a last-ditch save off a header. She made another sensational save less than a minute later on a strike from Sidney Leroy.
Mansfield, which is ranked 4th in the 5A Region I Texas Association of Soccer Coaches preseason poll, improved to 5-2-1. It will travel to Keller Fossil Ridge on Friday and start District 5-5A play on February 1 against Mansfield Timberview. Summit lost their 3rd consecutive match on the season.
