Well we got the dream final everyone has been hoping for. Manchester United took care of business on Wednesday as their squad made up of mostly second stringers walloped Schalke 4-1 at Old Trafford. This sets up a dream meeting between the two best sides in Europe on May 28th in London at Wembley.
Antonio Valencia and Darron Gibson got early goals and Anderson scored twice as the Red Devils cruised to the 4-1 win and a 6-1 aggregate victory in the most one-sided Champions League semifinal in 22 years. Schalke were in way over their heads being dominated in both legs. Still they must be commended on such a deep run in the prestigous competition.
The London final will be a rematch of the Champions League final from just two years ago. In the 2009 final, Barcelona defeated the Red Devils 2-0 in Rome.
"Barcelona play extremely good football. It's going to be difficult," said United keeper Edwin van der Sar, who intends to retire after the final. "We have to make sure we learned our lesson from [two years ago], be better prepared and deal with them in a different way. Hopefully, it'll be a better outcome."
Wembley here we come," Wayne Rooney wrote on Twitter. "Looking forward to Sunday now. Big result needed."
