Mexico rocks Arlington beating Brazil 2-0

It was a huge pro-Mexico crowd on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, Texas at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.  Over 85,500 fans (mostly for Mexico) were treated to a great victory as Mexico rode a pair of first half goals to a 2-0 win.

The first half was mostly Brazil on the front foot.  They had the majority of the ball and at least 80% of the attack time.  At the end of the 45 minutes they somehow found themselves down 2-0 though.

Mexico rarely got an attack, but when they did they punished Brazil.  Giovanni Dos Santos led one of these rare attacks in the 22nd minute.  He had the ball wide left and chipped a ball to the onrushing Chicharito who was flying to the near post.  Dos Santos overhit the chip though and it flew over Chicharito, over the keeper and off the far post into the net.  Dos Santos celebrated the accidental goal that gave Mexico the lead against the run of play.

Brazil went right back on the front foot only to gift Mexico their second goal ten minutes later.  Again a Mexico counter got deep into the right corner where Brazil took possession.  A terrible pass to the center missed it's target and landed right on the feet of Dos Santos who was immediately tripped by Juan for a penalty kick.  Chicharito rifled the spotkick into the lower corner and Mexico had a shock 2-0 lead.

The crowd expected a motivated Brazil to open the second half.  Instead they were rewarded with an invigorated Mexico squad who were much more confident on the ball and ready to do some attacking of their own.  Despite not scoring a goal in the second half, Mexico actually played better than the opening half when they scored twice.

Brazil should have had a penalty kick midway through the half when Leandro was tripped as he went round Mexico keeper Corona.  Somehow the referee waved off the obvious foul to the protests of Brazil.

The response was a pair of crushing tackles from Marcelo and Thiago Silva.  Suddenly the friendly was anything but.  Pato should have also scored for Brazil, but he missed a tap in on a low cross. Guardado whizzed a shot just over the crossbar and Mexico were able to see out a 2-0 victory.

"This game served us well in our plans for qualifying," Mexico coach Jose Manuel de la Torre said through a translator. "We killed two birds with one stone in beating a strong opponent and preparing ourselves for qualifying."
