FC Dallas enetered the day needing some help and a win in Seattle to gain a spot in the MLS playoffs. The results around MLS had been going FC Dallas's way all day and an early goal from Atiba Harris sent the Hoops on their way. Dario Sala and the defense withstood a late opening half barrage and the team took a 1-0 lead to halftime. It was just not meant to be though. The Sounders finally broke through when Freddie Ljungberg put a perfect cross to the backpost where Freddy Montero redirected the ball back across the six to the onrushing Nate Jaqua who touched into the empty net. At that point FC Dallas had to go seek another goal and the match really opened up. The action was end to end, but it would be Seattle who would find the winner. In the 84th minute it was once again Freddie Ljungberg providing the ball as his near post ball was flicked home by Brad Evans. The game would end 2-1 and FC Dallas will just miss out on the playoffs after a dramatic run of victories at the end of the season put them in range. Seattle becomes the first team since Chicago in 1998 to earn a playoff spot in their expansion year.
