Paschall girls face must win soccer game

The girls soccer playoff race in District 4-5A is so tight, tonight's game between Fort Worth Paschal and Arlington Martin could make or break the Paschal Panthers' season.

"With our district so bunched up, this is a really big game for us," Paschal coach Jason Grammer said. "It's going to end up with five good teams battling for those four playoff spots."

Paschal (8-3-2, 3-1-2) is in third place behind Martin and North Crowley, which are tied for first place. A win against the Warriors would put the Panthers in either first or second, while a loss could potentially drop Paschal to fourth, or out of the playoff positions.

"We need to play our hearts out tonight," Grammer said. "We need to focus, not think about next week's games. We need to think about winning our individual battles, one-on-one. That's how we can win this game."

Paschal, which tied North Crowley and Weatherford and lost to Arlington High, has played well together this season with an experienced group of 15 seniors. Madeline Hamm (committed to TCU) and midfielder Rebekah Tovar (Houston Baptist) lead the group.

"Madeline is our leader at the forward position, and she has had a great career," Grammer said.

Hamm entered the season with 66 career goals and has added 16 this year. Tovar has added three goals to go with five assists.

"Rebekah controls a lot of the game," Grammer said. "She's super aggressive and handles the ball well."

Paschal will take on perennial powers Arlington Martin tonight in Fort Worth.

"They have very skilled players and an experienced coach," Grammer said. "They are great with the ball, controlling it. It will be important to defend well and take the ball from them.
