Ivory Coast and Drogba ready for Wednesday in Frisco

With Ivory Coast playing in Frisco this week against El Salvador I though we would do a bit of a preview of the World Cup prospects of the squad.  Come out and watch on Wednesday night at Toyota Stadium in Frisco 8pm sharp as the team plays their final tuneup before heading to South America for the World Cup.

The Defense -
Here is where the real concerns are.  The defense is questionable at best and it was exposed last weekend in a 2-1 loss to Bosnia in St Louis.  Manager Sabri Lamouchi is searching for the right combination with the World Cup opener against Japan looming.  The absence of Kolo Toure was evident as a poor performance from Bamba did not ease fears.  They'll need Kolo to recover quickly from his bout with malaria.

The Midfield -
There is plenty of talent here.  Cheick Tiote of Newcastle and EPL star Yaya Toure  will be the engines that make the squad go.  The key to the whole squad could be Tiote as he will provide the cover for the suspect defense.  If he can take some pressure off the backline it will allow the team to do what they do best and that is attack.

The Attack -
As much as the defense is a concern, there are no similar concerns about the attack.  Cote d'Ivoire is simply loaded with attacking options.  Players such as Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, Gervinho,  Wilfried Bony and Salomon Kalou will keep defenses busy.

The World Cup draw -
They received what most feel is a very favorable draw for Brazil as Ivory Coast was placed in Group C along with Japan, Greece and Colombia.  It is a fascinating group even without the big names.  A defensive Greece side will face two sides that attack in waves with Colombia and Ivory Coast.  Then there is the very technical and organized Japan.  The African side has never advanced from group play at a World Cup, but grab an opening win over Japan and the Ivory Coast should be on their way to the knockout rounds for the first time.
