The SMU mens soccer team needed a victory over Kentucky to improve their seeding for the upcoming Conference USA Tournament.  An early goal got the Mustangs off on the right foot as freshman Arthur Ivo scored his third goal of the season.  The early goal was not enough, as the SMU men's soccer team fell to Conference USA 2nd place Kentucky, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field.

The Mustangs struck first just two minutes into the game, when junior forward Dane Saintus settled a high ball and played it to freshman midfielder Diogu de Almeida, who crossed the ball to the top of the penalty box. Ivo pounced on the loose ball and blasted a shot past Kentucky's Dan Williams to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.

The Wildcats drew level in the 17th minute, as forward Marco dos Santos fired a shot off SMU goalkeeper Craig Hill.  Kentucky's Chad Hagerty knocked in the rebound to make it 1-1.   Just before halftime Kentucky took the lead when Stephen Beiro headed in a Sam Vernalls corner kick. The 2-1 halftime score held up through the end of the game, despite SMU outshooting UK, 6-5, in the second half, and 11-10 in the game, and having two second half corner kicks to none for Kentucky.

With the win Kentucky solidified their grasp on 2nd place in the Conference USA standings while SMU wallows in a disappointing 7th.
