Omar Gonzalez has been taken 3rd in the 2009 MLS Superdraft by the Los Angeles Galaxy today.   Omar grew up in Dallas before heading to Bradenton to join the US Under 17 National Team.  He played in a U17 World Cup and then joined the University of Maryland to play his college ball.

While at Maryland Omar Gonzalez was a fixture at center back starting all three years.  Maryland just recently won the NCAA Mens College Cup which was played at Pizza Hut Park as they defeated North Carolina in the final.  Omar is a generation addidas player meaning he will not count against the Galaxy's salary cap or senior roster next year in MLS play.
