It was expected to be a tight match as the two hottest teams in MLS met on a scorching evening at Pizza Hut Park.  Real Salt Lake had not even conceded a goal in over 500 minutes of play while FC Dallas were unbeaten in 9 of 10.  Both teams are working on reeling in the first place LA Galaxy in the MLS Western Conference.

The first half was a battle in the midfield as both teams probed and tackled hard.  Columbian forward Milton Rodriguez put a header off the crossbar early on to put a scare to the RSL scoreless streak while at the other end an errant cross deflected off the crossbar and Brek Shea was forced to clear another ball off the line.  The match went scoreless to halftime.

The second half saw FC Dallas flex their muscle.  Jeff Cunningham was introduced to the Dallas attack and the team searched for the goal, but it was Real Salt Lake that almost struck the opening goal as Will Johnson was denied by the post.

The winning goal would come in the 69th minute of play.  Milton Rodriguez took a shot from just outside the box that Nick Rimando stopped at the near post. The rebound fell to the feet of Brek Shea who buried it for his fourth goal of the year.  The momentum was clearly in favor of Dallas and soon it was 2-0 as a Heath Pierce cross deflected off Shea to Atiba Harris who put it home.

The win continues to keep FC Dallas moving up the Western Conference standings as they sit 3rd.  Real Salt Lake sits 2nd, but saw their long unbeaten streak come to an end and also saw their alltime record in Dallas fall to 0-7-0.
