Cunningham lifts FC Dallas over Philadelphia

There was a Jeff Cunningham sighting in Dallas Sunday afternoon.  After having been relegated to bench duty the last couple of months, Jeff Cunningham emerged to enter at halftime and lift FC Dallas over the Philadelphia Union at blazing hot Pizza Hut Park.

The Union came out on the front foot taking an early lead by putting home a ball after a big ruckus in front of the Dallas goal.  Alejandro Moreno got credit for the goal as players from both sides sprawled after the loose ball as it trickled towards the net.  FC Dallas would answer back though.

Union keeper Brad Knighton spilled a ball in front of the onrushing Brek Shea who tried to round Knighton.   The keeper upended Shea and the referee awarded a penalty kick and also showed Knighton the red card.  Philadelphia was down to ten men in the 100 degree heat.  David Ferreira netted the penalty kick and the game went 1-1 to halftime.

With the man advantage, FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman introduced last year's star Jeff Cunningham to the match.  Cunningham has been nearly non-existent for weeks as Atiba Harris and Milton Rodriguez relegated him to the bench.  Today, Jeff Cunningham arrived with a vengeance though as he scored in the 75th and 81st to help FC Dallas to the 3-1 victory.  The win extends the FC Dallas unbeaten streak to nine matches and if Jeff Cunningham suddenly gets hot then look out.
