It was a hot and wild night at Pizza Hut Park in Texas as New York Red Bull and FC Dallas played to a very entertaining 2-2 draw.   This could very well be a preview of the upcoming MLS playoffs and what a matchup that would be.

After an early chance from Dane Richards slipped past the post, FC Dallas would grab the lead as Milton Rodriguez would head home from close range.  The good times would not last long for Dallas as captain Daniel Hernandez had to leave the game with a hamstring injury.  Only minutes later young Brek Shea would be red carded after a nasty tackle from behind on Red Bull Chris Albright.  FC Dallas would have to play an hour shorthanded.

It looked like Dallas would make it to the break with the 1-0 lead, but in the 4th minute of stoppage time New York would even the game.  Newly acquired Mehdi Ballouchy would slip in behind the defense and score from close range.

The aftermath would be marred by another FC Dallas injury as inexplicably Thierry Henry went in after the goal and kicked the ball off Dallas keeper Kevin Hartmann's foot.  The kick completely upended Hartmann who suffered a knee injury.  It was a totally amateur play from Henry who had no business being anywhere near and it could see the FC Dallas keeper out for a considerable amount of time.  Hopefully the MLS office will have a look at the play and reprimand Henry.

The 2nd half saw New York establish possession and push at the Dallas goal.  They had much of the possession but were rarely dangerous though as FC Dallas did a good job of clogging up the midfield and top of the 18.  In the 68th minute FC Dallas would grab the lead totally against the run of play.  Rookie midfielder Eric Alexander darted through the Red Bull defense and finish expertly as the stunned Red Bulls watched.

It looked as if Dallas might be able to get out of the match with all three points.  Juan Pablo Angel would have a say in that though.  Inside the final 10 minutes Angel made a hard near post run to meet a good cross from Lindpere.  Angel barely missed the ball, but Dallas defender Jair Benitez headed into his own net as he dove to try to clear the ball.

The match would end 2-2.  One can only hope the injuries to FC Dallas keeper Hartmann and Daniel Hernandez are not serious as these two teams could have a wonderful playoff matchup in the near future.
