FC Dallas coach concerned over team chemistry

In 2010, strong team chemistry helped FC Dallas advance to its first MLS Cup. However, that chemistry wasn't quite as strong in 2011. Several members of the group that reached the league title match were gone by the start of the preseason, and others were traded around midseason.

"We lost good chemistry people,” said FCD coach Schellas Hyndman said, singling out midfielders Eric Alexander, Eric Avila and forward Peri Marosevic. Last year’s club also battled through a season with 14 extra games. FCD was in the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time and advanced to the US Open Cup semifinals.

Dallas also missed the strong veteran influence of 2010 league MVP David Ferreira after he suffered an ankle injury six games into the season.

"You don't ever underestimate the influence David had on everybody",Hyndman said. So when Hyndman and his staff conducted exit interviews after last season, concerns with chemistry were a common thread. "Almost every player that came back said it wasn't the same," Hyndman said. "We had special events at people's homes, and [some players] wouldn't show up. That tears into team chemistry."

With at least four new players in 2012, chemistry will continue to be an issue.
