McKinney Boyd came in with a daunting 41 match unbeaten streak and #1 national ranking, but Rowlett girls soccer coach Jason Fegraeus needed his players to believe. On Tuesday night, his team trailed McKinney Boyd a goal at halftime, but Fegraeus felt that his players were right in the thick of the game.

He gave a quick pep talk at halftime to that effect, and just 90 seconds into the second half, a quick cross by Haley Rodriguez found Meagan McCullough in the box, who knocked a shot past the keeper for an equalizer and a much-needed boost of confidence.

"It couldn't have come at a better time," Fegraeus said.

Rodriguez was instrumental in the winning goal 20 minutes later, lofting a cross into a crowded penalty area. The ball flicked off a Boyd player, landing at the feet of Bre Powell who finished.

"Once they scored that the first time, it was like realized that this is not too tough," Fegraeus said.

Rowlett's 2-1 win over McKinney Boyd was a landmark win for Fegraeus and his players. Rowlett is the first team to beat Boyd since the start of the 2011 season, when it lost to Florida power St. Thomas Aquinas in the Nolan Prep Showcase.

"It's a huge confidence boost," Fegraeus said. "That's definitely a motivator." Rowlett (9-1-3), now in the SportsDayHS rankings, leads District 10-5A play with a 6-0 record, just ahead of McKinney Boyd (11-1-2; 5-1).
