Richland boys clinch district stay unbeaten

The Richland boys have been wonderful all season and Friday night they just kept on rolling.  They blasted district rivals Colleyville Heritage 3-0 wrapping up the District 6-5A title.

Richland has been led by the Caudra brothers all year long and Friday was much of the same. Jorge Caudra and Christian Caudra scored the critical goals in helping the Rebels secure the District 6-5A title, something that coach Matt Snow said was the original goal, but now admits the bar has moved higher. Which at the start of the year we weren't even thinking of and now it's the #1 goal.

A 1-1 tie with Colleyville Heritage is the only blemish on Richland's 20-0-1 record. Friday's matchup proved no different in the first 10 minutes. Each team had three possessions early and only Colleyville goalkeeper Mason Jarboe touched the ball on a weak shot.

That changed in an instant, though, when David Villanueva sent a passing shot just opposite of Colleyville defenders to a waiting Jorge Caudra. He fired a shot on the left side at Jarboe, who dived right and appeared to deflect the ball at first. But Jarboe and the Panthers caught some bad luck as the backspin caused the ball to roll under his arm and into the goal. Just three minutes later, Christian Caudra took advantage of a loose ball near midfield.

Finding himself one-on-one with Jarboe, he launched a shot from just outside the penalty box for a 2-0 cushion. Colleyville's best chance to score in the first half didn't come until the 36th minute on a corner kicks. A curving cross by Johnny Graffigna found its way on goal, but two Heritage attackers couldn't finish it.
