Opening day 2012 was a rousing success on Sunday at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco as FC Dallas defeated New York Red Bull 2-1.  A capacity crowd was on hand to watch the home side dispatch Thierry Henry and company.

It was a great start from FCD as they controlled play in the opening minutes.  They were rewarded for the bossing in the 11th minute.  New York failed to deal with a set piece and a weak Dax McCarty clearance fell to the feet of Zach Loyd who fired home the opening goal.  Dallas continued pushing the play until late in the half when the visitors began to push back.

A quick freekick from Thierry Henry bounced off the post just before halftime and New York went unrewarded for a solid final ten minutes of play.

The second half was a much more even affair at the start, but soon Red Bull began to push.  FC Dallas were sitting deeper and deeper in their own half as NY pushed for the tying goal.  New York would end up shooting themselves in the foot though as they turned a ball over in the midfield leading the another FC Dallas goal.  Blas Perez picked up the loose ball and played Ricardo Villar in on goal where he calmly chipped home for a 2-0 lead.

New York went right back on the attack though as they introduced Dallas native Kenny Copper to the match.  The move paid off minutes later as he popped home a wonderful long pass from Thierry Henry cutting the lead from 2-1.  Despite dominating the final minutes of the game, the Red Bulls were unable to find the tying goal as FC Dallas escaped 2-1 winners in their home opener.
