FC Dallas and Dallas Texans in contention in Super Group play

Both FC Dallas and the Dallas Texans are in position to advance from group play in Dallas Cup XXXIII Super Group play.  FC Dallas bounced back from their opening night loss to Manchester United by taking an impressive victory over Tigres 1-0.  It was a bit of revenge after Tigres had knocked FCD out of last year's Super Group semifinal.

Jonathan Top netted the gamewinner in the 37th minute of play and a strong defensive effort led by goalkeeper Richard Sanchez notched the shutout.  FC Dallas now sits on three points trailing Manchester United who have an almost lock on the group title.  FC Dallas will need a multi-goal victory over Santa Clara Sporting Wednesday to position themselves for the wildcard spot in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Dallas Texans looked to build on their come from behind win over Eintracht Frankfurt on the opening day.  They had a difficult test as they faced the Mexico U20 National Team.  It was an attacking affair that somehow produced no goals.  The strong winds hindered play a bit and the match ended in a 0-0 draw leaving both team atop the group on 4 points.

Everything will be up for grabs on Wednesday when Eintracht Frankfurt play the Mexico U20s while the Texans play a winless Paris St Germain squad.
