Cortiba to meet Manchester United in Dallas Cup final

It doesn't always happen this way in tournament soccer, but the two best teams at Dallas Cup XXXIII will meet in the Super Group final on Sunday evening at FC Dallas Stadium. Cortiba from Brazil will face Manchester United in a dream matchup.

Cortiba earned their spot in the final by knocking off last year's co-champion Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 in a semifinal Friday evening.  An early goal in the 8th minute via Filipe Silva got Cortiba off to the positive start and they were on their way from there.

Joao Amaral added the second just after halftime giving the Brazilians a comfortable 2-0 lead.  Eintracht Frankfurt pulled one back late on through Lukas Ehlert, but they could not complete the comeback and Cortiba goes to the final.

The second semifinal pitted a pair of EPL squads fighting it out for a championship spot.  Manchester United has been the best team at Dallas Cup in group play and they did nothing to change that on Friday night as they put on a dominant display.  Everton had little chance as United bossed the game.

A goal from Michele Fornasier in the 13th minute established that this would night would belong to ManU.  Everton hung around though keeping it 1-0 until late on when they started to throw some numbers forward.  They earned their first two corners of the night in the final couple of minutes, but they were made to pay for pushing.  Manchester United caught them on a counter in stoppage time and Jesse Lingard finished a breakaway for the 2-0 final score.  

It should be a fascinating final as I think Cortiba is the only team in the tournament that has the talent to actually break down the strong Manchester United midfield and defense.  It should be a real cracker Sunday night!
