Dallas Sidekicks slip past Rio Grande Valley

The Dallas Sidekicks were finally challenged on Thursday night as the Rio Grande Flash came to town.  The two sides used to have quite the rivalry back in the old days as the Flash used to be Monterrey.  Last night was like old times as plenty of physical play and drama filled the opening half of play.

Rio Grande Valley came out on the front foot and a pair of Dallas penalties influenced the early play.   Despite having to kill off two penalties and being outshot by a healthy margin, the Sidekicks found themselves ahead 2-0.  Goals from Ricardinho and Jamie Lovegrove provided the lead.

The Flash would strike back in the second period though as Juan Jalomo would tap in on the back post leaving Sagu no chance from close range.  Sagu was the story of the first half though as he notched save after save including 7 in the opening period alone. Both teams would add a goal before the break as the tight match went 3-2 to halftime.

The third period would provide no goals as neither side was able to find the net, but Dallas would put the game away in the final quarter.  A two minute penalty for a 6th foul gave the Sidekicks a power play midway through.  Nick Stavrou would take advantage as he put home a ball from Paolo da Silva giving Dallas some breathing room at 4-2.

Rio Grande Valley would put on the 6th attacker late on and Dallas would punish them for it as Jamie Lovegrove fired home for his 2nd goal of the night.  The match would end 5-2 to the Sidekicks, but it was definitely the first real test of the young PASL season.

To say the return of the Sidekicks has been a success would be an understatement.  The team is a perfect 7-0 and lead the entire PASL in attendance.  Harder games are on the horizon though as a home and home with Chicago and a pair of games against the vaunted San Diego Sockers loom in the next 30 days.
