Dallas Cup - Second half goal lifts Dallas Texans 96 past DMS11

A second half goal lifted the Dallas Texans 96 red past DMS11 of Cal South Monday evening in U17 Dallas Cup play.  It was windy and chilly at Richland College Monday evening.

DMS11 had the wind advantage in the opening half and used it well.  They put the ball on the ground and did a nice job of spreading the Texans out.  The Dallas side held their own, but the California side was much the more dangerous.  Especially on set pieces where they created several chances.

Midway through the opening half DMS11 should have been in front as they whipped in a corner kick.  The ball ended up on the left side of the Texans penalty area where a DMS11 shot was fired off the crossbar deflecting across the goal to the right side where another DMS11 player got on the ball.  He shot immediately only to see the ball flash across and strike the crossbar again.  Two crossbars within seconds, but the match went scoreless to halftime.

That's where the Dallas Texans 96 made adjustments for the second half that would pay off.  DMS11 were intent on taking their goal kicks short and it changed the game.  Texans would jump the short balls and DMS11 could never get out of their end.  Texans would turn them over continually and DMS11 was unable to adjust to the physical play of the Texas side.  Both the Cal South coach and players got continually more frustrated as the half went on, but the coach still made his team play short.

It was all one way traffic and eventually the goal came.  A corner kick was headed clear on the backpost but fell to Cody McLemore who drove a low ball back into the six where Tyler Wettstein would deflect into the DMS11 net.

The Texans had their lead and looked quite comfortable from there.  Corey Oesch was particularly dangerous going forward and the Dallas side were unlucky to have not scored more.  The match finished 1-0.

The result leaves the Dallas Texans on a win and a loss after their Sunday defeat to Denmark side Aalborg.  The loss was DMS11's opening match.  DMS11 will be back in action Tuesday as the face off against Futera Academy of Missouri.  Aalborg sits atop the group with two wins and finishes group play on Wednesday against DMS11.
