Firday night the weather was perfect at Pennington Field in Bedford for a second round boys 5A playoff clash between Duncanville and Flower Mound.

Flower Mound created the first good opportunity of the game as a long cross fell to Nick Base.  His shot from close range was turned away by Duncanville keeper Joshua Nieto.  The rebound fell perfectly for Dru Robinson, but he rifled his shot over the crossbar from ten yards out.

Following the initial chance neither side was having much luck stringing together any passes as the teams fought to keep the ball on the Pennington turf.  Typical for a David Doyle coached team.  Route one soccer.  Effective, but rarely pleasing to the eye.

Duncanville forced a turnover in the midfield and turned it into their first opportunity of the night in the 14th minute forcing a smart save from FM keeper Michael Martin.  The field was starting to tip in Duncanville's favor as the skill of Cecilio Mata and Luis Benavides was taking over.

Flower Mound were beginning to get frustrated as Alec Zonal picked up a yellow card in the 21st minute.  Duncanville were clearly the more skilled team and Flower Mound were getting their hacks in.

Duncanville finally broke through in the 28th minute when Eloy Arevalo fired a low shot past Michael Martin from the top of the penalty area.  The shot was perfectly placed leaving the sprawling Martin no chance.  It was nearly 2-0 within a minute as Sean Walkinshaw fired another low shot.  Martin was up to the task though diving to make the good save.

The long throw-ins of Flower Mound were giving Duncanville problems and just before halftime one produced a free kick at the top of the Panther penalty area.  The Camden Riley freekick was blocked by the wall however.

The match went to the break 1-0 to Duncanville, but Flower Mound was gaining confidence towards the end of the half.  Could they get the goal back in the second half?

Flower Mound came out on the front foot earning a long throw in and then a corner kick in the opening minutes that produced a header from John Satterla that flew just wide.  In the 47th minute they nearly had it tied but Camden Riley's shot flew inches over the crossbar.  The shots were coming though.

A show of skill from Luis Benavides nearly got Duncanville the second goal against the run of play as he danced past two Flower Mound defenders and sent a perfect low cross into the box that was driven just wide on the redirection.  Shortly after, a Benavides volley was saved by Martin as he was clearly showing to be the best player on the pitch.  Duncanville was once again bossing the game.

With fifteen minutes to play the Panthers were still hanging on to their one goal lead.  FM was pushing more players forward though setting up for an exciting finish.

Duncanville nearly put the match to bed in the 67th and once again it was Luis Benavides.  He cut across the top of the penalty area and fired on goal only to be denied by the crossbar.

Only a minute later Flower Mound had a golden opportunity as they earned a free kick just outside the Panther penalty area, but Tyler Wettstein launched the kick far over though to waste the chance.

With eight minutes to play Flower Mound added an extra striker while Duncanville countered by removing a forward and adding a midfielder.  It was all or nothing now. FM was pushing hard earning set prices and getting balls into the Duncanville box.  They scratched and clawed but were unable to find the tying goal.  The Panthers advance to face the winner of Marcus and Belton.
