SMU men struggling through

It has not been the season that the SMU men's soccer team had hoped for.  The highly talented roster was highly regarded headed into the 2013 season.  Picked to finish fourth in a very competitive AAC.

But things have not gone to plan as the team is limping along at a 3-8-2 record thus far.  SMU has played a difficult schedule suffering losses to the likes of Notre Dame, Indiana, Washington and Ohio State.  More concerning are some of the losses though.

Teams that in the past the Mustangs have handled with ease have ended up in the loss column this year.  Losses to several minnows dot the results.  Losses to Missouri-KC and Southern Illinois Edwardsville.  Home draws with Temple and Central Florida.

The results have left SMU in the middle of the pack in the AAC trailing leaders Louisville and Connecticut by wide margins.  Three matches remain.  On the road at Memphis and South Florida then a closing match at home with powerful UConn.  Without a solid finish SMU will find themselves well in the bottom half of the league.

Goalscoring has been the problem as the team has only found the net 10 times in 13 games.  Simply not enough scoring to win matches.  Alfred Koroma and Leobardo Vazquez lead the Mustangs with three goals each on the year.
