FC Dallas claimed their third win in three matches and stayed the only perfect side in the young MLS season with nine points.  Saturday FC Dallas went to Philadelphia and took full advantage of a man advantage to beat the Union 2-0.

Philadelphia, who have never beaten Dallas in eight MLS regular season games, went down a man in the 42nd minute when Zach Pfeffer was shown a straight red card for elbowing Mauro Diaz in the head. Pfeffer, one of the team’s most promising young players, was making just his fourth career start and first of the season, getting the nod in place of injured playmaker Cristian Maidana.  Prior to the red card the Union were piling pressure on the visitors earning corner kicks and getting chance after chance.

After the red card the match completely changed.  The dynamic FCD attack was unleashed and it only took a few minutes of the second half for them to strike.  Union fullback Fabinho tried to clear a ball but hit it right off Tesho Akindele, who streaked in the other direction alone on net. The reigning MLS Rookie of the Year took one touch and beat Union goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi from just outside the box with a low shot.

“When a team goes down, you’re always looking to capitalize on that situation,” forward Tesho Akindele told MLSsoccer.com after the game.  “We’re finding goals everywhere on offense. So we’re pretty confident."

After Fabian Castillo kept the pressure on Philly and hit the crossbar, substitute Hollingshead made it 2-0 in the 59th minute on another shot from outside the box that snuck just inside the far post.  Down a man, the Union weren’t able to muster nearly enough offense to try to mount a comeback. Dating back to last season, the Union have won just once in their last 10 MLS regular-season games.

FC Dallas moves to a perfect 3-0-0 on the young MLS season and welcome the Seattle Sounders to Toyota Park next weekend.
