FC Dallas back on track with win over RSL

The long hot August has come to an end and FC Dallas avoided a winless month with a 2-0 victory over visiting Real Salt Lake.  Despite missing midfield maestro Mauro Diaz again, FC Dallas found enough offense to send RSL home unhappy scoring two second half goals.

Youngster Tesho Akindele promised coach Oscar Pareja he would score on the night and he did just that knocking home a penalty kick early in the second half to break a scoreless tie.  It was Akindele's first start in three months for FCD.  “I told them I’d repay them with a goal,” Akindele told MLSsoccer.com. “I said, ‘I’m going to score a goal tonight, and I’m going to come celebrate with you.’"

After his goal in the 51st minute, Akindele jogged on a direct path to the Dallas sideline and embraced Pareja and the rest of the coaching staff.  But the match was far from over at that point.  Despite being badly outplayed, Real Salt Lake would have their golden opportunity in the 78th minute after a reckless Kellyn Acosta challenge left the visitors with a penalty kick of their own.  Javier Morales cut the spot kick a little too fine though as it came back off the post.

Soon after the match was over when Fabian Castillo fired home the second goal for FC Dallas.  Castillo has been called up to join the Colombia national team as a reward for his stellar play in MLS this year.

The win vaults FCD up into 3rd place in the MLS Western Conference where that trail only the LA Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps with a couple of games in hand on both.  FC Dallas will travel to Columbus next Sunday for a difficult match against the Crew who sit 3rd place in the MLS Eastern Conference and boast the high scoring Kei Kamara up top.
