Lionel Messi rallies Argentina to late draw with Mexico

This is what an international friendly is supposed to be.  Plenty of goals.  Tons of end to end action.  A wonderful crowd of over 80,000 at Dallas Cowboys Stadium.  And a dramatic late rally led by the best player in the world.

Some wondered how Mexico would react as they met one of the top teams in the world in Argentina.  Chaos has surrounded the team since their Gold Cup title, but drama always seems to surround El Tri.  Mexico showed they would be up to the task though as they met every Argentina attack head on and then countered in grand fashion.

Mexico would grab the lead in the 19th minute after Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez was fouled in the penalty area.  He calmly put home the penalty kick and the underdogs suddenly had hope.  Both sides continued to attack, but the match went to the break 1-0 despite the fireworks.

The second half would be even more exciting than the first.  Argentina kept pushing the attack, but often times it was Mexico that looked the more dangerous side missing several quality chances.  They would make it 2-0 in the 70th minute when Layun got down the left side and picked out Hector Herrera at the top of the Argentina penalty area.  Herrera took a nice first touch before blasting past Nahuel Guzman into the net.

Mexico looked safe and clear from there.  On their way to an inspiring victory right?  Wrong.  Everything changed in the space of 5 minutes as Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi put their stamps on the match.  First in the 85th minute Aguero would score after Lavezzi cut a ball back from the end line.  Argentina had a glimmer of life.

Lionel Messi would use a wonderful finish to complete the late comeback soon after and Mexico fans that were previously dancing in the aisle were suddenly sitting on their hands.  A well timd Messi run met a perfect pass from Aguero.  Messi took the flighted ball off his chest before volleying past the helpless Munoz.  Argentina pushed for the winner from there, but Mexico were able to narrowly escape with the 2-2 draw.
