It’s that time of the year again as spring arrives and the Texas state high soccer playoffs are upon us. The tournament begins next week. It was a long and competitive season in District 3-6A which saw Keller High School claim the district championship as the Indians led wire to wire.  Also qualifying for the playoffs are 2nd placed Fossil Ridge, 3rd placed Abilene while Keller Central grabbed the final position in the knockout rounds. Keller will open the 2018 playoffs against Mansfield.

Fossil Ridge chased their cross-town rivals the entire season and just could not catch the consistent leaders who seemed to rarely slip up.  FRHS swept through the second half of district play unbeaten in regulation.   They’ll open the playoffs against a solid Arlington Lamar side next week.  The time and venue have not been determined as of yet.

Abilene grabbed third place after losing in penalty kicks to Fossil Ridge Friday evening.  After falling behind 2-0 within the opening 15 minutes Abilene rallied to force penalties and grab a point from the match.  They did win the coin flip however and get an opening round home match against Arlington next Thursday night.

The final playoff position went to Keller Central who took care of Timber Creek and held off a late challenge from Weatherford.  CFC took care of business on senior night blasting the Roos 6-1.  With the impressive win the Chargers earn a difficult test in the opening playoff round as they face perennial powers Arlington Sam Houston at Central Charger Stadium Thursday evening.  At least they have home field advantage.  If any of the teams can get past the tough openers the next round will offer some West Texas opposition. Good luck in the playoffs!
