Yes!  The 2014 MLS season is upon us.  FC Dallas will kick it off this Saturday as they host the Montreal Impact a Toyota Stadium in Frisco.  Get your rumpus out there!

There is a newfound optimism surrounding the squad this year.  David Ferreira and Jackson are gone, but new coach Oscar Pareja has energized the players and several new signings should bolster the team.  Pareja has definitely addressed the weaknesses from last season.

To replace the unpredictable Jackson, Pareja went overseas and grabbed another young Colombian winger in Andres Escobar.  A friend and fellow youth national team stud in Colombia with Fabian Castillo, Escobar should give Dallas a flashy winger that produces dangerous attacks.

Mauro Diaz should step right in for David Ferreira and give FCD a younger, more dynamic attacking midfielder.  Blas Perez is one of the top scorers in the league and won't have any national team distractions this season.  Expect a monster year from him.  This team should score goals!

First round draft pick striker Tesho Akindele was a surprise, but he has all the tools of becoming an MLS quality scorer.  The team also signed forward David Texeira of Uruguay to add more depth behind Blas.

Finally, Pareja addressed what I thought was the biggest problem within the team last year: they had no real presence at defensive midfield.  Firstly, Dallas sent the unproductive Kenny Cooper to Seattle for Adam Moffat.  He will definitely provide depth at holding mid.

But the major move came later in the offseason when Pareja pulled off a trade with his former team Colorado to get Hendry Thomas.  This should be the most important move of the entire offseason.  Now FC Dallas have a true defensive midfielder in the mold of Daniel Hernandez to stop counters and win 50/50s.

The back four remain in tact from last year.  George John and Matt Hedges will man the center back positions while Zach Loyd and Jair Benitez will patrol the wings.  Look for youngsters Walker Zimmerman and Kellyn Acosta to push for minutes as well.

So we are all ready to kick it off!  FC Dallas - Montreal on Saturday night.  Then FCD hosts Chivas USA on Saturday March 22nd.  Two home games right off the bat.  And don't forget the promotion with Chipotle this Saturday where if you wear your FCD jersey you get buy one get one free!
