District 4-5A comes down to final matchday

Friday marks the end of the high school soccer regular season and there are still six teams in district 4-5A playing for playoff positioning and their playoff lives.  Only Haltom and Northwest have been eliminated from playoff contention.

At the top of the district it comes down to Richland and Keller Fossil Ridge.  Richland were expected to be fighting for a district title after a strong showing last year.  Fossil Ridge has been a pleasant surprise this year experiencing a resurgence after being down the last few years.  Richland currently leads FR by two points heading into the final match.  Because they also hold the tie-breaker all the Rebels need is a draw in their final game as they host the 6th place Keller Indians.

Keller Fossil Ridge will need to win a difficult match at Keller Timber Creek Friday night and hope for a Keller upset of Richland.  Otherwise, Fossil Ridge will be the #2 seed from the district for the playoffs with Richland claiming the title.

The other four teams are all battling it out for the #3 and #4 playoff places.  Southlake holds the advantage as they sit 3rd on 20 points.  They look to be in good shape and can wrap up third with a home win over 7th place Haltom Friday night.  Keller Central sits a single point behind them and can jump to third with a Southlake slipup.  Keller Central hosts last place Northwest and should grab the three points they need to be no worse than the #4 seed.

Keller Timber Creek are looking at a difficult situation.  Despite their impressive win over Keller Tuesday they still face an uphill battle to grab a playoff spot.  They are on 18 points and theoretically can jump all the way to 3rd if both Southlake and Central lose.  First things first though.  Timber Creek must knock off 2nd place Fossil Ridge before anything else matters.  A tough ask for sure, but they do have the home field advantage.

Keller is in 6th and in a bad, bad spot thanks to the Tuesday loss to Timber Creek.  They trail Central by three points for the final playoff spot and the two sides split the season series.  The Indians will need a Keller Central loss to last place Northwest and then they must upset first place Richland on the road.  Not looking likely at all.

So get your popcorn ready for a busy and eventful Friday night as the four playoff positions in District 4-5A are decided!
