Dallas Cup XXXV - Under 13 update

Three of the four North Texas sides in the U13 Dallas Cup XXXV bracket are alive and well after two matches.  Both Texas Lightning and FC Dallas Academy lead their respective brackets.  Sporting United heads to the Wednesday game with work to do and the Wizards are pretty much dead and buried at this point.

The FC Dallas Academy are on top in the tie happy Bracket E with four points.  On Monday they claimed a tight 2-1 victory over Vardar from Michigan.  A valuable win after the first two games in the bracket were ties.  FCD faces FC Bravo from Arizona on Wednesday.  The group will become clearer after the Tuesday Bravo-Vardar match, but FC Dallas will most likely need a minimum of a draw on Wednesday to advance.  A win will put them through no doubt.

Texas Lightning clearly got the easy draw for this age not having to face any powerful competition.  A weak side from Mexico, Delfines SD was dispatched on Sunday followed by a 2-0 Monday win over Cicero Mayas from Illinois.  Sparta United awaits on Wednesday in a match that should decide the group.  A draw will be more than enough to get Lightning into the knockout rounds.

After a solid opening win against Ives ESC of Florida on Sunday, Sporting United followed it up on Monday with a flop.  They lost 2-0 to Chivas USA and now look in jeopardy of getting out of the group.  Both Chivas and Cedar Stars from NJ sit on three points and play each other Tuesday.  It leaves Sporting United needing a win on Wednesday against Cedar Stars to have any chance of advancing.

Finally we visit the Wizards.  Clearly they received the most difficult draw of the four Dallas squads.  A very strong team from Mexico in Angeles Soccer Elite as well as the powerful SoCal side FC Golden State.  They also have Region 1 finalist TSF Academy from NJ.  Ouch.  The Wizards have claimed a draw from their opening two games tying FC Golden State on Monday, but they are out of contention with Angeles Soccer Elite from Mexico already on 6 points.  The Wizards will need a big win over TSF Wednesday and then hope alot of things fall in their favor to have any chance at a wildcard berth.

The knockout rounds begin on Thursday afternoon with the quarterfinals.  Expect to see FC Dallas and Texas Lightning in there for sure and possibly Sporting United as well if things go in their favor on Wednesday.
