Sidekicks get their revenge

The Dallas Sidekicks had revenge on their minds Saturday in Allen as they hosted Chicago.  The Mustangs handed Dallas their only loss of the season last weekend in a thrilling 8-7 overtime match up north.  The Sidekicks were on their 3rd game in 4 nights and struggled with the talented Chicago side.

Last night it was Chicago on short rest as they had played in Beaumont the night before and the Sidekicks returned the favor.

The response was almost immediate as Nick Stavrou put home a set piece from Ricardinho just 40 seconds into the match stunning the visitors.  Chicago was quiet from there as they were shutout in the opening half for the first time this year.  It was a very rare 1-0 indoor match at the half.

The second half opened up a bit as the Mustangs tied the game two minutes into the third quarter as Bryan Velazquez tapped home from close range.  The Sidekicks were having none of that though as they answered immediately.  Only 26 seconds after the Chicago goal, Shamu poked home an almost identical goal to Chicago's putting Dallas back in front 2-1.

Power plays were to dictate the rest of the third period as the Sidekicks were to cash in twice and put the game out of reach.  Extra man goals from leading scorer Frank Mbemba and another from Shamu made it 4-1 to the final quarter of play.  Chicago were in big trouble.

Another Dallas power play made it 5-1 three minutes into the 4th as Ricardinho set up Jamie Lovegrove for a low drive that found the backpost side netting.  The match was well decided.  The Mustangs would grab one back on a cheeky flick from Omar Tapia who celebrated like his team was well ahead rather than getting smashed.  Jose Castro of the Sidekicks got his first career goal in the closing minute as a clearance bounded off his shin and into the net for the 6-2 final.

The impressive win puts the Dallas Sidekicks two games ahead of Chicago in the loss column for the PASL Central Division lead.  The issue is that Dallas plays a much more difficult schedule than Chicago as Dallas must face the vaunted San Diego Sockers twice which Chicago does not play them at all.
