Junior forward Dane Saintus scored his third goal of the season but the SMU men's soccer team 2-1 in overtime at Memphis in an important Conference USA match. The loss leaves the Mustangs in a big hole at 0-2 in conference play. SMU got on the scoreboard first when Saintus collected an assist from senior midfielder Jeff Harwell in the 31st minute and connected on a shot from outside the box, giving SMU a 1-0 lead that held up through the halftime intermission. Memphis regrouped at halftime and came out strong in the second half. Tripp Harkins scored on a header in the 70th minute to tie the score, forcing a deadlock that would last until the end of regulation. In just the 3rd minute of overtime Michael Coburn headed in the winner off a Sean Goulding freekick. The loss drops the Mustangs to 6-3-1 overall, and 0-2-0 in Conference USA games and was their 3rd loss in their last four games. Memphis goes to 3-7-0 and 1-2-0 in Conference USA. SMU now returns home to face South Carolina at 7 p.m. Wednesday night while Memphis faces a tough midweek game with Creighton.
