The SMU men faced off against Conference USA rival Tulsa in a battle of the two preseason conference favorites Saturday night in Dallas. SMU got the fast start they were hoping for when senior Ryan Mirsky scored in the third minute of the game, when he headed in a corner kick from senior midfielder Jeff Harwell, but Tulsa had other ideas on the evening as they got first half goals from Justin Chavez and Jeovahnni Sandez to take a 2-1 halftime lead. The second half was much the same as the first as Tulsa controlled the match while SMU goalkeeper Craig Hill had a nightmare in the nets making several mistakes that could have made the score much worse. As it was, Tulsa got 2nd half goals from Kyle Corrie and Zach Nulisch for the 4-1 convincing win. The loss puts the Mustangs in a hole right off the bat in conference play. They hit the road for a match with Memphis next weekend before returning home for 3 straight.
