The men's soccer program at SMU has retained its status as one of the most desired target destinations for the nation's elite high school players with the announcement that this year's recruiting class is among the top classes in the nation.   The Mustangs signed 15 players in the spring, including nine from the talent-rich north Texas region, and was ranked #18 in the nation by collegesoccernews.com.

"I'm very happy that the guys in our incoming freshman class are being recognized for their talent before they even step on the field," new SMU head coach Tim McClements said. "Getting those players to a school with the academic reputation we have at SMU speaks volumes about their ability as players and in the class room, and we expect them to play a major role for us this season."

The Mustangs begin their season Aug. 29 against Old Dominion in the Virginia Soccer Classic in Charlottesville, Va., and open their home schedule at 7:30 pm, Sept. 12 against George Mason in the SMU Mi Cocina Classic.

In addition the program announced a pair of games that will be played on national television.    SMU will play at Memphis at 12 pm, Oct. 5, and at home against Kentucky Nov. 2,  also at 12 pm, in games that will be shown nationwide on CBS CS.  "Having our games shown on national television gives great exposure to our sport, and to our program here at SMU," McClements said. "This kind of exposure also is one of the reasons SMU is one of the premier programs in the nation, and one of the reasons top players want to play at SMU."
