The SMU mens soccer program released their schedule for the 2009 season. It is not as challenging a schedule as in years past as only Akron can be considered a national power. No Virginia or Cal on the schedule this year. The result should be a better overall record and an improved chance at a high national ranking. Akron is the highlight of the schedule as SMU and Akron will play on September 6th in Tulsa, Oklahoma. SMU will host two pre-conference tourneys. The SMU Invitational the weekend of September 19th with matches against Bradley and Cal State Northridge. The SMU Classic the following weekend with UAB and Missouri State on the schedule. The Conference USA schedule will be very challenging as SMU must face Tulsa, South Carolina and Kentucky all on the road this fall. Following the regular season, SMU will vye for the Conference USA Tournament in Memphis, with the top four teams playing in a single elimination tournament and the winner getting an automatic invitation to the NCAA Tournament.
