The SMU mens soccer team opens the 2010 college soccer season tonite at home against Missouri State. My how times have changed. We used to be able to look forward to marquee names on the SMU schedule. Virginia, Stanford, California, Akron and St Louis have all dotted the Mustangs schedule in the past few years. This year SMU soccer fans can look forward to Lipscomb, Seattle and Missouri State coming to Dallas. Creighton is the only match that should really let SMU see if they have aspirations of playing on the national stage this year. I guess the program is looking for an easier schedule after a couple years of disappointment in Dallas. The talent is as good as ever, it is just about putting it together on the field and getting the results. Veteran goalkeeper Craig Hill returns in the nets while Leone Cruz and Ian Kalis will lead the defense. Freshman Zach Barnes will be looked upon to step in and help the SMU midfield immediately. Payton Hickey returns after leading Conference USA with 9 assists last year. The Mustangs will host the SMU Classic over the weekend with matches against Lipscomb on Friday and Seattle on Sunday.
