The SMU mens soccer team stayed unbeaten on the young 2010 season as they won a pair of games over the weekend at the Hurricane Classic in Tulsa.  On Friday night SIU Edwardsville put up quite a fight keeping the game scoreless until late in the match.  SMU had plenty of attacking opportunities but did not find the winner until the 84th minute when Juan Castillo turned with a good pass from Leone Cruz and fired home.

On Sunday afternoon the Mustangs came out fast and jumped in front of Western Illinois in only the 2nd minute of play.  Some immediate pressure off the opening kickoff resulted in a penalty kick awarded to SMU.  Josue Soto knocked home the spotkick putting SMU in front and notching Soto's first goal of the season.  Just after halftime Juan Castillo made it 2-0 with his 4th goal of 2010 and it looked like SMU was cruising to a win. Western Illinois did not go quietly though.  Some late pressure cut the lead to 2-1 but the Mustangs held on for the victory.

SMU heads up to Bradley next weekend for a stiff test against Creighton on Friday and then Bradley over the weekend.
