SMU clinched the Conference USA regular season soccer title with a 2-0 win over Kentucky Saturday evening in Dallas.  Goals from Zach Barnes and Josue Soto propelled the Mustangs to the important victory and leaves SMU 14-1-0 for the year.

Josue Soto netted the game-winner when he scored on a free kick from 30 yards out in the fifth minute. The goal was Soto's fifth of the year and his third game-clincher of the season.   Zach Barnes added an insurance goal for the Mustangs when he scored less than five minutes later. Freshman forward Juan Castillo took the ball down the right side to the end line and crossed it in to Barnes, who one-timed it home. The goal was Barnes' fifth of the season. The helper was Castillo's team-leading 22nd point of the year.

"It was a tough one," head coach Tim McClements said. "Kentucky is a physical team, and they worked awfully hard. When we got the second goal, I felt like the main thing was to manage the game. Too often during the year, we've found a way to give up a goal in that situation - and today we didn't. That's really a testament to the players and their maturity. You can tell we're getting better every game. We did what we needed to do to win the game."
