The 2011 college soccer season is winding down and the SMU men could not have picked a worse time for a two game losing streak. The Mustangs have dropped consecutive road matches at UAB and Kentucky both in shutout fashion. They had only been shutout twice all season before now.
Previously SMU had put themselves in a prime position to make a run at the Conference USA title with three wins in a row and had a five game unbeaten string going. Now SMU needs to win their season finale over Memphis this weekend.
A victory will push SMU over Memphis in the standings and mean no worse than a 5th place finish. They could get to 4th if Central Florida slips up in their final game against Marshall. The Conference USA Tournament begins November 9th in Tulsa. SMU will need to win the title to get a NCAA Tournament bid most likely.
