Boy oh boy do we have it good here in North Texas.  The next few months are going to bring a plethora of exciting soccer to the area in the form of Dallas Cup, World Cup warmup matches, Real Madrid and of course the new MLS season.

Firstly comes the kickoff to 2014 MLS season as FC Dallas sports a new coach in Oscar Pareja and hopefully a brand new attitude.  I must admit, for the first time in a few years I am quite optimistic.  Playoffs this year?  FC Dallas kicks it off Saturday as they host Montreal and also have a home game March 22 against Chivas USA.

Just when you get a few FC Dallas games under your belt we get my favorite event of the year.  Dallas Cup!  We have the defending Super Group champions returning this year as Fulham FC is coming back.  Two powerful Brazilian sides will provide stiff competition in Fluminense and Cortiba.  Chivas from Guadalajara should also be a major title threat.  Oh, and did I forget to mention that the US Under 20 National Team is also coming?  The only downside is that we will have to take in the major matches at the crummy Cotton Bowl.

Usually every summer we are treated to one major match over at Jerry World. Whether it is Gold Cup or a European club warming up for the new season.  This year we are getting three great games!  Two World Cup warmups are scheduled around Memorial Day.

First on May 31st Mexico will face Ecuador at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.  It will be one of the final games for El Tri before they head south to Brazil for,the World Cup.  Mexico games at Jerry World are always a blast!

Just a few days later we will be treated to superstar Didier Drogba and his Ivory Coast squad.  They'll be facing El Salvador in Frisco at Toyota Park on June 4th.  It will be the last warmup for Ivory Coast before the World Cup.  Drogba, Yaya Toure, Gervinho and Salomon Kalou lead the top ranked African side.

Have you had your fill yet?  Well there is still me more big match on the schedule.  Real Madrid is coming to town!  On July 29th the powerful Spanish side will play AS Roma at the Cotton Bowl.  Yes, I know.  Why the Cotton Bowl?  Yuck.  But we will just have to tough it out to see Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale!

So there you have it.  Game on!  A spring and summer of brilliant soccer on tap for North Texas.
