North Texas boys showing mixed results at Southern Regionals

Oh how times have changed.  Southern Regionals used to be a showcase for the Dallas teams.  North Texas sides were favorites at almost every age and it was very rare for a Dallas team to not make it out of group play.  States like Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas provided squads that were little more than a speedbump for Dallas teams on their way to deep runs in the Southern Regionals.

But, alas, times have changed.Nowadays the Dallas teams are producing a mixed bag of results at Southern Regionals.

The Under 18s have shown to be stout.  Both area squads have their opening two matches and will advance into the knockout rounds.  Dallas Texans have squeeked out a pair of 1-0 victories while the State Cup champs AYSES have a pair of 2-1 wins.  AYSES meet Florida Rush Nike for the Group A top spot needing a win as they trail on goal differential currently.  Dallas Texans only need a draw to win Group C as they face last place Lonestar.

Also having success are the Solar Red 99s who have also won both games.  They'll face Oklahoma FC for the group win tomorrow, but both teams are already assured to advance.

FC Dallas 98s are sitting on a win and a draw through two matches.  They'll face group leaders Pinecrest Premier of Florida in the last group match.

Otherwise, if you peruse the Southern Regional standings all you will see are North Texas squads in the lower half of the tables.  FC Dallas Central 97s have lost both games so far and have failed to even score a goal.  The Dallas Texans 96 squad has also gone winless through two games in the U16 division.  The Solar Chelsea 95s have a win and a loss so far.  They'll need a good result tomorrow to advance from group play.
