Southlake routs Keller 5-0 for Regional berth

This one got ugly fast.  What was supposed to be a tight, duke it out rivalry matchup turned into a rout in 15 minutes.  Southlake really wasn't any sharper than the previous times I had seen them play.  The real issue was that Keller just failed to show up.

Keller came out in a real defensive formation, leaving star striker Ryan Condotta up front on his own.  The result was it allowed Southlake to attack at will and Condotta mostly on his own against 3 and 4 defenders hoping his midfielders could get forward in support fast enough.

The opening goal came on a long Southlake switch to the backside where Hunter Horvath scored.  The second goal came only a couple of minutes later as Southlake forward Mac McGuire got loose.  It looked like he controlled the ball with his hand, but the referee ignored it as McGuire cut inside and scored.  It was 3-0 in quick succesion.  This time a long throw in was not dealt with as it bounced into the goal.

Things went from bad to worse as Southlake's Matt Leach rifled home a great freekick from long range.  Another would be added before the break and the match went to halftime 5-0 with Southlake students singing "Heyheyhey Goodbye."

"This is a special group that knows how to motivate themselves," Carroll coach Greg Oglesby said. "We studied them a bunch in the last two playoff games and after playing them two times earlier, we knew how to attack them."

The second half saw Keller get into the attack much more and generate a few chances, but the match was long long over by that time.  Southlake saw the game out easily and now advance to the Regional Tournament in West Texas this weekend.
