Friday night was a big game in District 4-5A as Keller Timber Creek visited Southlake Carroll.  Both teams had opened district play earlier in the week with draws so both were looking for a win to get into the top half the early season district race in what looks to be a very competitive district.

The home side started brightly as Ricardo Becerra got down the right se and earned a corner kick.  Shane Carpenter  curled the ball into traffic and it went off a Timber Creek head and not the net for an own goal in just the second minute of play.

Southlake were clearly the aggressors early as Timber were taking time to settle into the match and deal with the fifteen mile an hour wind in their face.  Timber got their feet under them and the match turned into a pretty even battle over the next fifteen minutes.

In the 20th minute it was another set piece that Southlake cashed in as Timber Creek failed to deal with another ball.  This time the ball bounced around loose at the six before Michael Hennessey stabbed the ball home for the 2-0 lead.  Timber Creek limped into the break down a pair and needing a big second half rally.

The rally was on  just two minutes into the second half Timber Creek earned a corner kick of their own.  Southlake cleared the first near post ball out for another corner, but they didn't deal with the next corner well at all.  The near post ball deflected off the shoulder of #20 and into the goal.

2-1 Game on. Timber Creek suddenly had the momentum and a stiff wind at their backs.

Southlake got the goal right back though as Riley Parrish fired home a free kick from 29 yards out in the 50th minute.  The Dragons were right back n the drivers seat.

Southlake keeper Patrick Leal came up big minutes later as he leaped to tip out a header for a corner kick.  The ball went straight to the other end where a rash Timber Creek tackle resulted in a penalty kick for the home side.  Riley Parrish confidently finished the spot kick and with 25 minutes to play the match was turning into a rout.

Just when you thought the game was over Keller Timber Creek showed signs of life.  A long free kick was launched into the Southlake box from 50 yards out.  Keeper Leal came off his line but got lost in the traffic.  A Southlake defender misjudged the ball and headed the ball backwards into his own empty net.  4-2 Southlake.

With nine minutes to go it looked like Timber Creek had pulled to within one goal.  A long throw went undealt with once again and the resulting header was directed off the crossbar where it bounced downward, but clearly did not cross the line before being cleared.

Southlake saw out the 4-2 victory from there and claimed an important three points in the district race.  Elsewhere in District 4-5A Keller Fossil Ridge blasted Northwest 4-0 while Keller slipped past rivals Keller Central 1-0.
