It was a wild game with plenty of goals and drama. Hurricane FC took the lead in the 7th minute through Elizabeth Keester, but Sting would answer just a minute later when Madelyn Crabtree scored. Jasmine Pascoe put the Oklahoma side back in front before halftime shifting momentum their way at the half.
Sting emerged from the break with renewed vigor. Caitlyn Heap evened the game in the 53rd. It looked like Hurricane FC would take the title when Anna Beffer scored in the 73rd minute of play. Certainly Sting could not rally again in the closing minutes. Somehow they did as Katherine Martin scored in stoppage time to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Maddy Crabtree played the hero as she netted the game winner to lift her team to back-to-back national championships. It was Crabtree's 4th goal of the tournament.
"What can you say about being down on every goal?" Sting head coach Kenny Medina said. "This team had the will to come back. There's no time left on the clock and they scored the tying goal. They just never quit. I mean, what do you say but they're a special team."
